How do I change my SIS administrative password? What are the rules for passwords for SIS administrative users?

You will receive your initial password when you get notice of being assigned your SIS responsibility. You will be required to change this initial password; going forward, you will also be required to change your password on an annual basis.

The password will need to be changed through the SIS administrative site. You cannot change this password using Employer/Manager Self-Service. If you wish to change your password before the annual change date, log in to the SIS (following the instructions in "How do I log in to SIS?" above) and click on Change My Password in the Menu. If you have forgotten your password and cannot log in, call the UVA Help Desk.

The new password should be a strong password; these are our recommendations for strong passwords.

How to Login
  • A guest should receive two emails after a student gives access. One email will show the level of access that the student has given to you (first screenshot below) and the second email (second screenshot) will contain the information you need to log in. Please check your spam folder if you do not receive these emails.

Please keep this email for future reference if you need the log in URL or the Guest User ID.

Per the email above, follow these steps to authenticate your account and receive access to the student account:

  1. Click on the link titled CLICK THIS LINK TO UPDATE YOUR ACCOUNT in Step 2.
  2. Click on Click here to proceed link.
  3. Update your Password and follow the requirements in the screenshot below.
  4. Install Google Authenticator from your device’s app store:
  5. Once you have installed Google Authenticator, open the app on your device and select the plus sign icon to add a new registration.
  6. Select “Scan a QR code” from the menu and use your camera to scan the code on Google Authenticator Setup page.
  7. Enter the one-time code provided by the application and click Submit to finish the setup.
  8. Sign in using the user name from the email provided above and the password you created.

What if I forget my password?
  1. Click on the link below on the Guest Sign in Page.
  2. Enter your User ID.
  3. You should then receive the following email (check your spam folder if you do not receive the email) where you will click on Link to reset credentials:
  4. You will then be linked back to the page where you can update your password.
  5. You will need to scan the QR code and enter the new code from the Google Authenticator App. NOTE: To avoid confusion, you should delete the prior accounts in your authenticator app for this account.
Do I need to use Google Authenticator if I already have an authenticator app on my device?
No, you can add to any authenticator app you have downloaded on your device (such as DUO or Microsoft Authenticator). Just open that app and follow the steps to add an account using the provided QR code or Setup Key.
What if I forgot my username?
  • Your username is in the email that was sent to you with the subject of “Update Your UVA SIS Guest Access Account”
  • If you scanned the QR code, your username should be populated in the authenticator app
  • Contact the UVA Helpdesk.
What if I need to re-setup my authenticator app?
Click on the ‘Forgot Password?’ link on the sign-on screen. After changing your password, you will be able to update your authenticator app.
